After seven successful terms as a Matthews Town Commissioner, JOHN URBAN has filed to seek an eighth term as Commissioner for the Town. JOHN URBAN brings a combination of dedication, experience and integrity to his tireless efforts for the benefit of the residents of Matthews. Citizens regularly express their pleasure at our great small town quality of life and to this end many recognize the true contribution made by Commissioner URBAN.
JOHN URBAN brings a unique background and skill set to his service in the Town of Matthews. His experience and qualifications allow him to thoughtfully and sensibly address the needs and issues affecting Matthews.

Supported citizen approved bonds to expand & rejuvenate the vast park system. Added 54 acres of parks, voted for improvements to the Matthews Veterans Park.
Promoted restaurants & retail in what was (not so long ago) empty buildings
Supported the construction and capital support for Fire Station #3 and the men & women who call it home. Station #3 will allow for quicker response times for residents and improvement of the town's ISO rating for insurance.
Created the first ever policy saving & working diligently to make sure old growth trees and greenspace are preserved.
A huge negotiated victory to secure a replacement elementary school in the heart of Downtown. An innovative partnership between Matthews, Discovery Place, and CMS to build a science museum using tourism-related funds rather than property taxes.
Increased pay benefits for Police, Fire and Public Works to maintain a strong workforce and reduce staff turnover.
Summer Fest, Mainline Market, Food Trucks, Juneteenth, to Matthews Alive and the Holiday Stroll, events throughout the year for the young and old.
Significant inroads have been made to provide a variety of affordable housing opportunities including extensive coordination with habitat for humanity.
A 200 acre campus that will bring clean manufacturing, innovative technology, and high paying jobs. The campus will also create a local Police/Fire?EMS training facility.
Advocate and Supporter of the Matthews Historical Foundation along with historic properties, The Reid House, Massey-Clark House, and Outen Pottery
